Joey

My dad used to always say, "Dreaming is the luxury of children"... and that I should enjoy it.

He was right.

This is the last year of high school for me and my friends.

This is all I can ever really see myself doing.

When you got responsibilities, you don't have time to dream.

I guess it's the difference between being a boy and a man.

Where I come from, you grow up quick.

"Wake up, Y'all, it's 6:23. It's your boy, Frank Ski in the morning, and we've got another scorcher planned for you here in the South, I'm talking Dirty South hot..." I turn off my alarm.

Me and my brother Kash live with our Uncle Vincent

He's my mom baby brother.

He supposed to be raising us, but responsibility was not really his strong point.

I get dressed and go to the restroom.

"Aye Kash. You want a ride, you better hurry up." I knocked on his door

"All right."

I call him Jellybean.

Hardheaded on the outside, soft on the inside.

And me, there's nothing much to say, other than I'm straight forward with people.

I go to the kitchen and looked in the pantry for cereal, but there wasn't any.

knock knock

"What?" Vincent said loudly

"let us get a box of cereal, man."

"We ran out."

I know he was lying, I waited there for a minute.

He opens the door

"I know how much is in there too."

"One bowl each."

"Yeah whatever" I grabbed the box and walked away.

I served myself a bowl of cereal and waited on my brother.

"Kash lets go!" I said putting my bowl in the sink.

"I'm ready" He grabbed a sunny d from the fridge

Beep beep

I got my own car when I was 15 going 16. My dad left it for me.

We went to go pick up my boy, Gio, He's basically my best friend.

He got accepted to an Ivy League school.

I know it's hard for people to get rides so I don't mind anyone asking me for one.
