“What are you saying?” the Elvenking mused.

“I’ll follow him. Anywhere. Anytime. No matter what.”

He slammed his fists in rage. “What! You... You dare to—“

She looked up. “Please! Help him, don’t lead him to death! I’m begging you, Thranduil. Help and spare his life. Please, I’ll do anything! J-Just... Please.”

Thranduil finally relaxed and sighed in defeat...

But then smiled in triumph.

“All right, then. But in exchange...”

He lifted up the maiden’s chin with his fingers.

“Stay. As my Queen.”

“Th-That’s not—“

His face melted to rage. “Either do it, or let the naug die.”

- YOU -

I had no choice, then. “Agreed. But promise me, save him.” The Elvenking nodded. “Very well. You have my word...” he holds my hand firmly but gently, and places it in his chest. “As a King.”

“Prepare our best warriors,” he commanded the next day. “We make for the Mountain.”

Later in the day, we set out with goods and elf-knights. “The goods are...?” I mused, catching up beside his elk, I riding a horse. “The dragon Smaug is dead, unleashing his fury at Lake-town. The people of the town are homeless, and without support and resources,” his eyes glinted. “And without the dragon, the treasure is unguarded...” he looked at me, stone-faced. “It is most likely he is dead.” I glared angrily at him. “You don’t know that for sure.” “Oh, I do, my dear.” I backed away from him. “You don’t know him. And you never will.” I spat.

- NARRATOR POV -

“We have come to reclaim our homeland. I remember this town in the great days of old. Fleets of boats lay at harbor, filled with silks and fine gems. This was no forsaken town on a lake.

This was the center of all trade in the North! I would see those days return. I would relight the great forges of the Dwarves and send wealth and riches...” Thorin turned to the Master. “Flowing once more from the Halls of Erebor!”

Bard came in just in time to see the heir of the Mountain stand in the middle of astounded faces. Returning from Sigrid’s place, he now voiced out the prophecy.

“Death! That is what you’ll bring upon us,” he seethed. “Dragon fire and ruin... If you waken that beast, it will destroy us all.”

“Do not listen to this naysayer!”

“Have you forgotten what happened to Dale? Have you forgotten those who died... in that firestorm? And for what purpose! The blind ambition, of a Mountain King... So riven by greed he could not see his own desire!”

“Now, now!” the Master shouted out. “We must not, any of us, be too quick to lay blame.”

Bard looked at Thorin, hopeful to change the King’s mind. “You have no right to enter that mountain.”

Thorin was unmoved.

I have the only right.”

--

“I'm going to be there when that door is opened.” Kili strained.  “When we first look upon the Halls of our Fathers, Thorin.”  “Kili, stay here.” Thorin advised with a stern face. “Rest. Join us when you're healed.” Fili looked at his uncle as if he’s gone mad. “Uncle. We grew up on tales of the mountain.

Tales you told us. You cannot take that away from him!” The King sighed. He knew that he couldn’t risk the quest—and their halls for the wounded. But most of all, he cannot risk the life of his nephews. “One day you will be king and you will understand.” He sighed, hoping that Fili, being the elder brother, would take his invitation to consideration. “Fili, don't be a fool. You belong with the company.”

Fili gazed up at him.

I belong with my brother.”

The boat set out. Fili, Kili and Bifur were left behind—including Bofur who just woke up from being drunk. “Ha! so you missed the boat too?” was all he asked. Out of the blue, Kili collapsed.

Lightning fast, Bofur searched the crowd for Bard. When the Dwarf found him, he only turned away. “I’m done with Dwarves.” The bowman stated. Bofur panicked. “No, no, no! No one will help us. Kili’s sick.”

The bowman found pity and led them inside.
