K-9 Grayson (BPD)

WARNING: drugs (not taken, just a small bust!)

"Okay, and lastly for duties today, Shnall is going to be with Rohrback today. Grayson, you're being transferred for-" Addad was reading off their duties for the day.

"What?! You can't transfer Grayson!" Amy yelled suddenly.

Her yell was met with several agreeing yells.

"For the day! Let me finish speaking people! Grayson is being transferred for the day!" Addad yelled.

Everyone quieted down when they heard that.

"Where am I going today?" Richard asked.

"To the K-9 unit." Addad said.

"Wait. I get to play with puppies all day?!" Grayson squealed.

"It's the K-9 unit, you'll do your routine route, but you'll have a K-9 instead of Rohrback." Addad explained.

Grayson nodded.

"Okay, that's the duties for today, so get to work!" Addad said and walked back to his office.

"Enjoy the K-9's Rookie!" Ylang called out as Grayson walked to the door.

"Will do!" Richard smiled.

He wuickly ran down the steps to get to the basement floor.

"Knock, knock!" Grayson said as he poked his head into the room.

"Yes? Oh! You must be the Rookie, Grayson, right?" A women asked, holding a puppy in one hand and a leash in the other.

"Yeah! And you are?" Richard asked.

"Oh! How rude of me! I'm Mary Margaret!" The women had very short black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. (Yes! Can check a Once Upon A Time reference off my list!)

"Okay, Richard Grayson at your service!" Richard bowed.

Mary laughed, "Well, Grayson, these are our partners, the K-9 unit! They all have their own names and collars with their names."

"They're so cute!" Grayson smiled.

"So, we have the puppies up front and the bigger dogs in the back. Everyday, they all get a walk, and we give them baths every two to three days." Mary said.

"Okay, is that all?" Richard asked.

"Well, we do use the dogs to sniff out drugs and other things. We take the older ones out and sometimes the puppies to watch the older ones. They always ride in the back because they guys are cute but vicious. They were trained to sniff out and attack when told. As their handler, I can pet them. However, it takes a bit to get them used to people. You can pet them when they get used to you, but not until then. Not unless you want a missing hand." Mary explained.

"Okay, so what are we doing first boss?" Grayson asked.

"Well, we're going to first give them all baths! So, there's a changing room over there and some clothes in it. Change into those and I'll meet you out here again!" Mary smiled, handing Richard some clothes.

Richard quickly went into the room and changed, coming out with the K-9 unit clothes on.

"Okay! So, how do we do this?" Grayson asked.

"Well, we take them one at a time into the bathroom over there and give them baths!" Mary smiles at him.

A few hours later, Grayson emerged soaking wet and covered in dog hair. "That was fun!"  Richard shook his wet hair, like the dogs shook the water off on him.

"Oh my! Well, you now know why I told you to change!" Mary smiles and laughed a little.

"Yeah, I'm going to change back into my other clothes." Richard said, leaving to the other room.

He emerged in warm, dry clothes again.

"So what's next boss?" Grayson smiled.

"Well we have-" Mary was cut off by the ringing of a phone.

"Hello?" Mary picked up.
"Yes, did! We'll be there soon!" Mary hung up and smiled at Grayson.

"Well, Richard, we have a K-9 call!" Mary smiled.

"Cool! So, what are we doing?" Richard was excited.

"We're going to bring Lily here with us to search for drugs." Mary said, putting a leash on the female dog.

Mary led Grayson and Lily out to the K-9 unit car.

"Now, I'll lead the dog around, but don't get in her way. If she smells drugs, then she's going to  go after them. She gets a bit aggressive as well." Mary Margret said as she drove.

"Alright!" Richard said, waiting patiently.

Mary got out and took the dog around the car that Shalt and Lloyd had pulled over.

The dog sniffed for a bit before barking and trying to scratch at the ground by a wheel. Mary held the dog back and told Shalt to take a look at the wheel. Shalt took the lugnuts off and pulled a piece of the protectant plastic off to find some strange white lining on the plastic. Shalt sniffed it a little and immediately nodded.

Mary smiled and then got back into the K-9 unit with Lily. "They had it hidden in their tire. Lily was such a good girl though!" Mary gave Lily a treat.

"Wow. Dogs have such strong noses!" Richard exclaimed.

"Yep, but they can be such gentle creatures." Mary said, driving back to the station.

"So, your partner was gone for today?" Grayson said.

"Yeah, a doctor's appointment. He'll be back tomorrow though." Mary smiled, "I know, the dogs grow on everyone."

"I might pop in to say hi to them from time to time though!" Richard smiled.

"Go ahead! They need more people around. It's just me, my partner, and Assad that come visit them." Mary smiled sadly.

"Then I'll definitely see them again!" Grayson laughed.

"They'd love that!" Mary parked and took Lily out, "Well, thanks for your help today, Richard! I'll see you some other time then!"

"Bye Mary! Don't forget to spoil them for me!" Grayson smiled before going back up to his regular floor.

"Can I transfer to the puppies?" Richard asked Addad.

Addad laughed, "We need you here Grayson! You can visit them though!"
